Here we are again near the end of the year. The weather is a little chilly and the holiday parties have started! We all fall prey to eating a little too much so here are some tips to avoid holiday weight gain this year.

Don’t wait until the New Year to start. Get going now and make health a part of your lifestyle. You might think that the pounds you gain over the holidays are temporary and nothing to worry about. Think again! The four weeks of celebrating with too much food can lead to long-term weight gain according to Sweden’s Linköping University researchers. So do your best to “avoid holiday weight gain” for long-term success.

Tips to Avoid Holiday Weight Gain and Stay Healthy

Usually, people like you and me gain a couple of pounds over the holidays. Right? It starts around Thanksgiving and goes through to New Year’s Day! You are partying like it is 1985 when your metabolism was a lot faster and you could anything you wanted. Those days are gone so listen up to these tips to avoid holiday weight gain. The problem is the pound you gain this year stays with you through next year. You then add another pound until year after year, you are obese.

  • Shop the latest sale and buy clothes that fit. If you have great clothes that fit nicely, you’ll be motivated to stay within your calorie budget! All that money spent for something to hang in your closet unworn? I don’t think so!
  • Keep a food diary. That’s right. Write down everything you eat. You will be surprised at what you write down! Sometimes we don’t even know how much we eat! We do it subconsciously. And don’t forget to write the little bit you had of hubby’s treat or the chips you snuck from the bowl. Those all count towards your weight gain. If you want to avoid holiday weight gain then write it all down!
  • Eat before the party. What? Party food is scrumptious and calorie dense with loads of fat. Do you agree? If you eat beforehand, you won’t be too hungry at the party and have a better chance of curbing what you eat there!
  • Have the party at your house! Then you can choose to serve healthy, low-fat foods! Your guests will appreciate it and no one will wake up with a sugar hangover the next day.
